DE: Im Rahmen des abschließenden Kulturprojekts des Studiengangs Mitteleuropäische Studien – Kulturdiplomatie(MES-KD) II wird eine Ausstellung organisiert, die sich der internationalen Konferenz „Demokratische Experimente: Mitteleuropa und die Vereinigten Staaten“ zum 250. Jubiläum der Gründung der Vereinigten Staaten anschließt.
Die Studentinnen der Seminargruppe “Angewandte Kulturdiplomatie” befassen sich mit verschiedenen mitteleuropäischen Ortsnamen (Wien, Prague, Balaton…) überall in den Vereinigten Staaten und erläutern die Bedeutung, den Hintergrund und den historisch-kulturellen Kontext der erforschten Orte, nehmen gleichzeitig zu heute dort lebenden Personen Kontakt auf, um aktuelle Informationen und Meinungen zu den erforschten Ortsnamen zu bekommen.
Ziel der Ausstellung ist, als Rahmenveranstaltung der Konferenz die Bedeutung der Wurzeln der europäischen Kultur sowie die Pflege der kulturellen Traditionen und des gemeinsamen Erbes zwischen der Region Mitteleuropa und den Vereinigten Staaten hervorzuheben. Andererseits wird die Relevanz der transatlantischen Relation der Region betont, indem die MES-KD II Gruppe spannende Geschichten aus diesen jahrhundertelangen Beziehungen erzählt.
EN: As part of the final cultural project of the Central European Studies – Cultural Diplomacy (MES-KD) II program, an exhibition is being organized in connection with the international conference “Democratic Experiments: Central Europe and the United States”, held on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
The students of the seminar group “Applied Cultural Diplomacy” are exploring various Central European place names (Vienna, Prague, Balaton, etc.) that can be found throughout the United States. They examine and explain the meaning, background, and historical-cultural context of these locations, while also establishing contact with people currently living there in order to gather up-to-date information and opinions about the researched place names.
The aim of the exhibition, as a complementary event to the conference, is to highlight the significance of the roots of European culture, as well as the preservation of cultural traditions and the shared heritage between the Central European region and the United States. At the same time, the relevance of the region’s transatlantic relations is emphasized, as the MES-KD II group presents engaging stories from these centuries-long connections.
