The Danube Commission is an international organization based in Budapest that brings together its member states to ensure free, safe and well-regulated navigation on the River Danube. We are now looking for a secretary to provide high-level support to the Commission´s Secretariat and its management. This is a central, trusted position at the heart of the organization. Working directly alongside the Director-General, you will keep the Secretariat running smoothly.

What you’ll do


  • Support the management of the Secretariat across all administrative and organizational matters
  • Manage Secretariat documents and register incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Translate correspondence from and into the Hungarian language
  • Keep filing, digitizing, internal directories and database records accurate and up to date
  • Help prepare internal and external meetings and assist with drafting final reports
  • Organize travel — planning, bookings and expense accounting
  • Run the Director-General’s calendar and appointment coordination, welcome and host visitors
  • Carry out research and data analysis and contribute to briefing documents and presentations
  • Help improve internal procedures and take on other tasks that support the work

What you’ll bring


  • Intermediate or higher commercial / business education
  • Solid, relevant experience in secretariat management or as an executive / management assistant, ideally in an international environment
  • Good command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and everyday web tools
  • Fluency in English and in the host-country language, Hungarian
  • A careful, structured way of working, resilience, a confident manner, strong teamwork and a high level of commitment and initiative
  • Discretion, reliability, flexibility, strong written and spoken communication
  • Knowledge of the Commission’s official languages — German, French, Russian would be an advantage
